Housing Program

Purpose:

The Housing Program assists psychiatrically disabled adults who are homeless, in shelters, or at risk of becoming homeless in finding transitional and permanent housing.  Housing options include:  room and board, room rentals, and shared and private apartments.  On-going goal oriented support services are provided to assist consumers with maintaining housing.  The Community Friends Program, which matches consumers with a volunteer to provide social support and friendship, is available to consumers.  A listing of room and boards is updated regularly.  Staff speaks English.

Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible consumers must be homeless or at the risk of being homeless, receiving mental health services or willing to receive services if needed.  Consumers who do not have a source of income and are willing to apply for benefits are eligible.  Consumers must be stable and capable of living independently without support and supervision.

Referral Process:

Consumers who meet the criteria may be referred to the program.  A completed referral form can be mailed or faxed to the Housing Specialist at MHA's Homeless Multi-Service Center.  Referrals may be called in over the phone as well.
