Representative Payee Services

Program Description
Representative Payee Services are designed to assist clients of Orange County Mental Health Services in managing their finances. The Representative Payee receives income for the consumer and makes payments as necessary. Rent and other ongoing expenses can be paid directly by the Payee to help ensure financial and housing stability.

What can I expect from REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE Services?

1) The Representative Payee will receive information from you about your monthly expenses. You and your Mental Health Staff Person will together decide which payments you would like the Payee to make for you.

2) The Payee receives your monthly income and then pays your bills for you. Your monthly check will no longer be mailed to you.

3) The Payee will also make payments to you for you to spend as you wish.

4) This is a voluntary service. You can decide whether or not you want to participate.

What if I do not have enough money to pay my bills?

You and your Mental Health Professional will work out a monthly budget with the income you have. The Payee cannot find additional money for you.

How do I sign up?

Talk to your Mental Health Staff Person. There are a few simple forms to complete together. The Payee will need some information about your bank and monthly bills.

What else do I need to know?

You will need to tell your Payee whenever there is a change in your income or residence. You will need to inform the payee whenever you move, get a job, lose a job, increase or decrease your hours worked, get or lose benefits, receive an inheritance or trust, or otherwise have a change in the income you receive.

You will also need to let the Payee know if you are ever convicted of a felony or are hospitalized for 30 days or more.

QUESTIONS?
